Annual Distinguished Lecturer
Each year Southeastern Cave Conservancy hosts a lecture featuring a world reknowned scientist in cave and karst research. Topics range from biology to geology and human history. Notable experts are invited to share the latest developments in their research with the public.
Join us for an exciting peek into the hidden world of cave microbiology with Dr. Hazel Barton, Loper Endowed Professor of Geological Sciences, University of Alabama.Dr. Barton'sresearch focuses on understanding microbial interactions and adaptations to starvation in caves. Rather than being home to a few scant organisms, caves support a remarkable microbial ecosystem. The microorganisms within caves are changing the ways in which we understand how caves form and the potential for life elsewhere in our universe. Dr. Barton is the currentLoper Endowed Professor of Geological Sciences, University of Alabama.
